Meanwhіle, Moore’ѕ tenure іn K.C. couldn’t be any more dіѕaррoіntіng ѕo far.

Jaylon Moore, once considered a promising addition to the Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive line, seems to be stuck in an odd position. The former San Francisco 49ers’ swing tackle was signed to bolster the Chiefs’ offensive line, but his role has turned out to be far less impactful than many expected. Moore, who was originally brought in to potentially start at left tackle, has found himself relegated to a backup position behind right tackle Jawaan Taylor—who has struggled with penalties and inconsistent play so far this season.

Moore’s situation in Kansas City is emblematic of a larger issue facing the reigning AFC champions, who are off to an unexpected and disappointing 0-2 start. After losing to both the Los Angeles Chargers and the Philadelphia Eagles, many are beginning to question whether the Chiefs’ run as a dynasty is nearing its end. In contrast, teams like the 49ers, who are 2-0 to start the season, have quickly shown how well they can maintain dominance even after roster changes.

Despite Moore being one of the higher-profile additions to the Chiefs’ offseason roster, his current status raises serious questions. He hasn’t even been able to secure a starting spot, which was likely one of the key reasons Kansas City signed him in the first place. Instead of filling the void at left tackle, Moore finds himself buried on the depth chart, behind Taylor, whose own struggles have been well-documented. Moore’s contract is another complicating factor—Kansas City is paying him $15 million per year for a role that essentially mirrors what he was doing in San Francisco as a swing tackle. From a financial perspective, this move is starting to look like a major misstep for the Chiefs, who are shelling out significant money for a player who is not making an immediate impact.

Adding insult to injury, the Chiefs’ draft of offensive tackle Josh Simmons in the first round of the previous year’s draft only further minimized Moore’s chances of securing a starting job. While Moore was originally signed with the expectation that he would be a key piece of the offensive line, the arrival of Simmons has meant that Moore is now a backup, and there’s little indication that this situation will change unless Taylor’s performance improves dramatically.

From a cost-benefit perspective, the Chiefs’ decision to invest so heavily in Moore now seems increasingly questionable. With Moore essentially occupying the same role he held with the 49ers—a backup swing tackle—Kansas City has not seen the return they hoped for on their investment. Meanwhile, the 49ers, who lost Moore in free agency, haven’t missed a beat. They are thriving with a perfect start to the season, and it seems that the Chiefs might have overpaid for a player who is not fulfilling his intended role.

This has led many to question how well Kansas City is managing its roster and whether they’ve been a little too generous in their free-agent signings. Moore’s underwhelming performance in Kansas City is a reminder of how crucial it is for teams to evaluate their needs carefully and not overpay for players who may not be able to contribute as expected. The Chiefs’ early struggles—along with Moore’s lack of impact—have cast a shadow over what was once seen as a team poised to continue its reign as one of the NFL’s top dynasties. As the season progresses, it remains to be seen whether the Chiefs can find their rhythm or if this marks the beginning of the end for their dominant run.
