GREEN BAY — With the Green Bay Packers entering the offseason facing a brutal financial puzzle, Josh Jacobs has quickly been placed in the category of players who could become a cap casualty.
OverTheCap projects Green Bay to be roughly $10.816 million over the 2026 salary cap, meaning a wave of cuts, restructures, and tough decisions is almost inevitable if the team wants to become cap compliant.
That’s why, once Jacobs learned he might no longer be part of the organization’s long-term plan, the veteran starter is said to have taken matters into his own hands — immediately offering a contract restructure to reduce his cap hit and ease the team’s burden.
According to OverTheCap’s contract tools, a restructure could generate approximately $9.2 million in 2026 cap savings — a meaningful number that would give Green Bay real breathing room as it works to “clean up” the cap sheet.
Jacobs makes his stance crystal clear:
“For me, the issue right now isn’t money. My feelings for Green Bay make it impossible for me to walk away. I’m willing to restructure my contract if that’s what it takes. I believe in the future here — and I believe the Packers will be the final stop of my career.”
From the front office side, the reaction is described as positive but cautious. The Packers would be expected to appreciate the willingness to sacrifice for the team, while still evaluating the bigger-picture cap roadmap and roster plan for 2026.
In other words: if a restructure can create immediate cap relief without forcing a painful separation, it’s the kind of “win-win” solution Green Bay would have every reason to sit down and seriously explore.
