BREAKING NEWS : Cowboys’ WR room is officially in shambles after latest injury blow Full – SSS

The Dallas Cowboys were without CeeDee Lamb in Week 4, but you wouldn’t know it as Dak Prescott and the offense exploded for 40 points and 436 total yards against a Green Bay Packers defense that ranked third in EPA per play and second in success rate over the first three weeks.

Prescott played arguably the game of his career, but Brian Schottenheimer deserves his flowers for creating a game plan that allowed Dallas to move the ball without Lamb. It’s clear by now that the Cowboys have a coach – and play-caller – who is multi-dimensional.

Unfortunately, Schottenheimer might have to reach deeper into his playbook this Sunday against the New York Jets. According to Tommy Yarrish of Dallascowboys.com, KaVontae Turpin could miss time with a foot injury suffered in Week 4.

Cowboys could be without KaVontae Turpin after already losing CeeDee Lamb

“During Wednesday’s media viewing period in practice, Turpin was not present. As it stands, the Cowboys do not believe Turpin’s injury will land him on injured reserve, which would sideline him for four games,” Yarrish reported.

It’s a win that Turpin seemingly won’t go on IR, but it sounds like he’s a long shot to play this week. Even with how prolific the offense was against the Packers, that would be a gut punch.

Turpin has become an important piece to the offense. While 11 catches for 159 yards and a touchdown doesn’t seem like much, Prescott has had great success targeting Turpin, whose 76.9 percent success rate is best on the team among players who’ve logged at least 10 targets.

The 29-year-old has also found success as a runner, taking six carries for 23 yards. He’s an all-purpose playmaker, and his potential absence will be felt beyond the offensive side of the ball.

It’s taken Turpin a few weeks to adjust to the new kickoff rules, but he found a groove in Week 4, averaging 29.2 yards per kickoff return on six attempts. He broke free for 45 yards on his last return of the game late in the fourth quarter, which gave the Cowboys a short field to retake the lead. Only Jalen Tolbert and Miles Sanders have fielded kickoffs besides Turpin this year.

Speaking of Tolbert, he and Ryan Flournoy are the de facto next men up in the WR room if Turpin can’t go. They’ve quietly stepped up when called upon this season. Jalen Cropper was elevated from the practice squad last week, so that could be in play again.

Being without Lamb and Turpin is far from ideal. Luckily for the Cowboys, Prescott is playing at an MVP level, and the Jets’ defense hasn’t been able to stop anyone this season.
