2026 MOCK DRAFT BOMBSHELL: Broncos Eye a Riley Moss Replacement in Round 1-cachiusa

A new 2026 NFL mock draft from The Athletic connects the Denver Broncos to a first-round cornerback.

Senior writers Nick Baumgardner and Scott Dochterman projected Denver to select Mansoor Delane with the No. 30 overall pick.

This would be a move that would immediately put pressure on Riley Moss as he enters a pivotal contract year.

Delane is viewed as one of the most NFL-ready corners in a deep draft class, and while Denver doesn’t have an urgent need at the position, the fit makes sense.

The Broncos have been searching for more stability opposite Patrick Surtain II, and Moss’ uneven 2025 season has left the door open for competition or even a longer-term replacement.

Moss’ 2025 season was chaotic.

He was heavily involved, seeing the highest target totals among NFL cornerbacks.

While he broke up 17 passes, that volume came at a cost.

Offenses repeatedly attacked him and generated many explosive plays throughout the year.

Through mid-December, Moss also led the NFL in coverage penalty yards (178).

He was flagged 11 times overall, including nine defensive pass interference calls.

Several came in high-leverage moments, including one that wiped out a Broncos pick-six against Kansas City.

Moss has acknowledged the issue publicly and leaned into fixing it.

DNVR reported he’s even used boxing gloves in practice to curb overly handsy technique.

Teammates and coaches have praised his physicality and mindset, but the numbers remain hard to ignore.

Moss now enters the final year of his rookie deal.

The former third-round pick is set to earn a $3.71 million base salary in 2026, with unrestricted free agency looming in 2027.

Delane checks nearly every evaluative box.

At 6-foot, 190 pounds, he’s a boundary-corner prototype who thrives in press coverage.

According to PFF, he held opposing receivers to just 14 catches for 165 yards in 2025 despite battling through a core muscle injury for much of the season.

Technically, Delane stands out.

According to multiple scouts, he disrupts releases with quick punches, mirrors routes with smooth hips, and closes throwing windows with advanced route recognition.

LSU leaned on him in both man and zone concepts, and his processing allows him to stay connected at all times.

An AFC scouting director summed it up bluntly:

“His coverage is very mature. He’ll be one of the top 10 to 12 corners in the NFL pretty quick.”

There are some areas to refine.

Delane can play tall in space, doesn’t always locate the ball consistently downfield, and his aggressive hand usage could draw flags at the next level.

But his profile screams immediate contributor, with long-term upside.

The Broncos biggest draft needs remain an offensive playmaker at either running back, wide receiver or tight end.

But best player available often comes into play at pick No. 30.

It’s only the first mock draft of the cycle, but it highlights a position the Broncos will be closely tied to all spring.
