The Seattle Seahawks made a flurry of roster moves ahead of their Week 15 home game against the Indianapolis Colts, activating center Jalen Sundell and tight end Eric Saubert from injured reserve and bringing rookie defensive lineman Rylie Mills onto the 53-man roster from the non-football injury list. The team announced the moves on December 13

Seattle also placed rookie tight end Elijah Arroyo on injured reserve with a knee injury, a move that effectively ends his regular season while leaving open the possibility of a playoff return.

The Seahawks host the Colts at 4:25 p.m. ET, December 13, at Lumen Field.

Sundell’s return is the biggest “domino” on offense. He started Seattle’s first nine games at center before his injury, and now he’s back on the active roster with the Seahawks still having Olu Oluwatimi available after filling in while Sundell was out.

Saubert, meanwhile, gives Seattle a veteran tight end option after Arroyo’s IR move. Saubert had missed time with a calf injury, but his activation stabilizes a group that’s leaned heavily on starter A.J. Barner, with rookie Nick Kallerup also in the mix.

Mills appears poised to make his NFL debut after spending the season on the NFI list while recovering from a serious knee injury suffered late in his Notre Dame career. The Seahawks have viewed him as a rotational piece who can help across the defensive front once healthy. As for Arroyo, putting him on IR is a clear signal the Seahawks don’t expect him back in the regular season. Under NFL rules, players placed on IR must miss at least four games, and the team has to manage a limited number of “return” designations over the season.
The most interesting subplot is the center spot. Activating Sundell doesn’t automatically mean he’s starting immediately, but it gives Seattle options — and insurance — against a Colts front that can stress protections and force quick decisions in the middle. At tight end, Saubert’s return should help Seattle’s run-game packages and protection looks, especially with Arroyo sidelined. Saubert has been used primarily as a blocking tight end this season, and Seattle’s willingness to keep him around says a lot about how they value that role. The Seahawks also announced Saubert signed a one-year extension through the 2026 season, a notable in-season commitment for a player who’s largely done the “dirty work” role in the offense.

On defense, Mills adds another body to the rotation at a time of year when teams are often just trying to keep the front fresh. Even if his snap count is modest, simply having him active expands Seattle’s options for pass-rush and run-stopping packages.

Seattle also brought back Shaquill Griffin and Cam Akers on the practice squad and released Myles Gaskin and Jimmy Holiday to create room. ce squad, giving them another back behind Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet.

That elevation matters because practice-squad call-ups come with rules: a player can typically be elevated a limited number of times in the regular season before a team has to sign him to the 53-man roster to keep using him on game days.
