The good news just keeps coming for the Seattle Seahawks. The team, of course, didn’t haven have to play in the wild-card round of the NFL playoffs last weekend, because they’re the No. 1 seed in the NFC. Plus, they’re heavy favorites going into their matchup against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL’s divisional round of the playoffs on Saturday, January 17, at Lumen Field.
Now, the Seahawks are getting even more good news as gameday approaches. It’s incredible to see what head coach Mike Macdonald has done just two years into his time with the Seattle Seahawks.
“Well, it’s been a heck of a couple days because every six hours it feels like we change out who we think we’re going to play,” Macdonald told NBC Sports’ Maria Taylor of finally finding out that they’d be taking on the 49ers.
“So it’s just nice to know who we finally have,” he added. “And it’s a little funky going against a team two games in a row. So we got to do a great job of debriefing and having some answers, knowing that Kyle will have some stuff dialed up for us.”
The Seattle Seahawks are favorites to beat the 49ers, and according to research from the oddsmakers at FanDuel Sportsbook, Seattle is a -6.5 favorite over San Francisco. But, the good news doesn’t stop there.
The Seahawks are actually still favorites to win the Super Bowl, over any other team. The two tams that are favorited to get to the big game are the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots, and Seattle gets the nudge to winning the Vince Lombardi Trophy, according to research from NBC Sports.
The Seahawks have appeared in three Super Bowls, winning one of them, which was Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014 against the Denver Broncos with a 43-8 final score.
Following the Seahawks’ 27-10 win over the Panthers on December 29, head coach Macdonald spoke about the victory.
“All right, good to see everybody all the way across the country. Look, it was a great win by our guys,” he told reporters. “You know, felt like it’s the same story every week but we didn’t flinch. Big emphasis this week was like can we stack plays in all three phases.”
Macdonald added, “Took us a half to do it, but I felt like in the second half we did a great job by responding to the takeaway. DeMarcus Lawrence had a phenomenal play; then we were able to punch it in. And AJ Barner was really a spark plug for us on offense.”
The coach also praise the fourth quarter performance, stating, “and then come back with another takeaway with Julian [Love] in a phenomenal play, and then just go finish out in the fourth quarter. I feel like it was cool to end of the game in a four-minute touchdown, I thought. That was something that we have been wanting to get done all year, and the guys did a great job. You know, fly back home and get ready for next week.”
