The Seattle Seahawks are staring at a very real offseason decision, and Kenneth Walker III didn’t dodge it.
In an exclusive interview with Heavy where Walker discussed the Seahawks’ new partnership, Walker confirmed his thoughts on his rookie contract and said he’d like to remain in Seattle, with one clear condition: he wants to be somewhere that “thought of me first.” With the Seahawks sitting at 12-3 and heading to Carolina in Week 17 (Sunday, December 28, 1 p.m. ET), the timing adds pressure to a situation that’s going to define Seattle’s 2026 offense.
Walker was asked directly about Seattle as a long-term destination.
“This is my last year,” Walker said. “I would always want to be somewhere that thought of me first and brought me in… I love it here, and this is a place I would want to be.”
That’s not a trade demand, and it’s not a contract ultimatum, but it’s a very clear message about priorities. The Seahawks can hear it now: if they want Walker to be part of the long-term plan, they’ll have to treat him like a priority, not an afterthought.
His production this season is one of his better outputs of his young career. Walker posted a 1,050-yard rushing season as a rookie at 4.6 yards per attempt in 15 games. This season, Walker is back at that 4.6 yards per attempt mark, and currently has 879 yards rushing through 15 games. He has five touchdowns to go along.
Walker also made it obvious he’s bought into what Seattle is building right now, and not just for personal numbers.
When asked about the committee approach with Zach Charbonnet, Walker admitted it’s “definitely different” from college, but he emphasized winning over touches: “Chasing a ring and being a team player is more important than my personal accolades.”
That quote matters because it frames Walker as the kind of player a front office wants to keep, and it fits what Seattle has been doing in high-leverage moments. In the Seahawks’ overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams, Walker helped spark the offense as Seattle came back from a 16-point fourth-quarter deficit to win 38-37.
Seattle’s Week 17 game is not just another late-season matchup. It’s a major positioning spot with real stakes.
The Seahawks head to Bank of America Stadium on December 28 to face a Panthers team that’s 8-7, with Seattle currently listed as a road favorite in early odds.
And if you’re looking for why this matters today: Seattle is playing for more than rhythm. The Seahawks can clinch the NFC West in Week 17 with the right combination of results, which is exactly why Walker’s “we’re not done yet” tone hits differently right now.
Walker repeatedly stressed there’s “more to be seen” from the Seahawks and “more to come” in the run game. He also highlighted how Seattle wants opponents to know the run is coming and still not be able to stop it, including in four-minute offense situations.
If Seattle keeps pushing toward a top seed, Walker’s leverage and importance only grow. If the season ends earlier than expected, the contract conversation gets louder, fast.
